Career Center “Goes to Bat”

Posted by blog @ 8:44 am

The Carthage Chamber’s first-ever Small Business World Series is a showcase of local businesses with a baseball flavored tailgate party event on Thursday, August 30th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  The event takes place at the historic Rock Stadium inside the Municipal Park in Carthage.  The Missouri Career Center is one of the tailgate exhibits that visitors will see as they “round the bases” at the event.

“The objective for this event was to provide an opportunity for member businesses to promote goods and services to the general public in an unusual fashion at an unconventional location,” noted John Bode, President of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce.  “I’d say the committee has done a great job meeting that objective.”

In addition to the unique tailgate displays, a special appearance of Louise, the Springfield Cardinals mascot is set to boost the baseball theme of the event.  The Gadget Guy, aka Brad Douglas from KSN-TV, will emcee the event.

Tracy Lemmons and Deb Baugh will represent the Career Center at the event.  The “tailgate booth” will feature information on services and initiatives through the center.  For more information on the Small Business World Series, contact the Carthage Chamber of Commerce at 417-358-2373.

There were 2.9 advertised vacancies online for every 100 persons in the labor force in April. Over the year April ’06 – April ‘07, online advertised vacancies increased 24 percent for the nation as a whole.

SISTEM Upgraded with New Training Modules

Posted by blog @ 3:32 pm

SISTEM Training

The increasingly-popular Alchemy Training SISTEM, a powerful workforce training solution available to businesses through the Missouri Career Center, underwent an upgrade recently to add new training modules by popular demand.   Modules on Customer Service, Business Etiquette, Attitude/Motivation, and Goal-Setting are among many new highlights in the soft skill training offerings through SISTEM.

The new Basics of Customer Service module helps trainees understand the importance of good customer service through six key elements needed to improve a customer’s experience.  Learners identify specific methods to provide exceptional customer service and processes to effectively handle a customer complaint.

An entry-level Business Etiquette module covers the importance of making a good impression through appropriate professional dress standards and good hygeine for men and women in work environments.  The training helps participants understand the impact of body language when meeting new people as well.  Building on the first module, a Professional-Level Business Etiquette module addresses customary behavior when meeting new people and expected protocol for conducting meetings and making calls for work.  The module also covers appropriate behavior for dining with business associates.

Defining attitude and the benefits of a good attitude at work lead off the Positive Attitude and Motivation module.  By understanding the different ways people are motivated, trainees can identify factors to influence their ability to motivate and modify behaviors to create an atmosphere of positive change in the workplace.
